Our history1950 - Shortly after the opening of the Rensselaer Field House in Troy, NY, with 26 aspiring skaters, under the experienced guidance of its Managing Director, H.L. "Jack" Garren and Peg Garren, the RPI Figure Skating Club was organized.
1951 - The club was accepted as a probationary member of the United States Figure Skating Association and that same year undertook its first competition, the Eastern Sectional Championships. 1952 - A Junior Division was added to the club under the supervision of Mrs. Garren and in this year the club was voted full membership in the USFSA. 1953 - The club undertook its first Carnival, with production under the direction of the capable and experienced Jack and Peg Garren. 1958 - The club again had the honor of holding the Eastern Sectional Competition. 1961 - The club was host to the North Atlantic States Sub-Sectional Figure Skating Championships. 1976 - The RPI Figure Skating Club changed its name to Hudson Mohawk Figure Skating Club, Inc. to keep its identity separate from RPI. Today - 50+ years since its inception the main objective of the HMSFC remains the same: to promote figure skating in the Troy, New York area. The Club is fortunate to have the RPI Houston Field House as its home rink. |
