25th Garren Invitational

Acknowledgements & HMFSC Results

Dear Club Members,

The 25th Garren is now part of our Club history. What a terrific day we had! Each and every one of you did a fine job of skating and representing our Club. We are so proud of all of the skaters.

There were well over 500 spectators who watched 136 skaters participate in 57 events with 211 starts. The Garren had an outstanding group of skaters from many area Clubs as well as Clubs from New York City, Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut.

Ann Seman did an outstanding job of receiving all the applications, answering questions, (some about Amtrak schedules) corresponding with the referee and then arranging the program. With the printer. A lot of work for one person and she did a terrific job! Both she and Linda Abate manned the check-in table from 7am to 6 pm as well.

The rink had the special touches of red and silver created as only Judy Carhart can and many comments were received as to how nice the rink looked.

Gail Rockwell took care of selling floral bouquets and 50/50 tickets. The big winner of the 50/50 was Don Carhart!

All Hudson Mohawk members who participated representing Hudson Mohawk received a beautiful silver charm and chain commemorating our 25th Anniversary of the Garren. Vici Armsby spent much time looking for just the right gift and everyone receiving the charm was so surprised.

Ellen DePan and Lois Bonesteel WOWED the officials with a scrumptious luncheon and lovely judge's room. It was nice to also be visited by Mr. & Mrs. Garren's daughter, Peggy LaPosta and her husband Jack, Mary Lou and Peter Mitchell, Beth Randall (both were honored by the Club for their contributions to the sport) and Norris Pearson, Manager of the Field House. Our Honor Member, Virginia Levitt stopped by later in the day. Mrs. Staro, Connie Rizzo and JoAnne Anderson could not be with us but hopefully next year they will be able to come. The luncheon meal was catered by Dom Marra and it was delicious.

And, what about the competitor's gift bags! Lois Bonesteel made special 25th Garren candy wrappers for all the competitors, Phyllis Norton added several gift items that I know all skaters will welcome as did Cheryl O'Brien. Judy secured from Rainbow Sport a lovely catalog and gift coupon .for all the skaters as well.

Coming through for the Club again was our Announcer Casey Ditzel and her friend. She is to be commended for all her work and getting the music played correctly. I know that the referee was very pleased with her announcing.

Manning the concession were John Palladino, Nick and Neil who sold all the delicious food that was donated by the members. Their stand was sold out towards the early afternoon. Great job! Lynn Tarnowski was our one person ice monitor for the day and did a fine job of answering questions and making sure the skaters were ready for their events. Lynn also organized all the vendors - all of whom were very pleased with the outcome of the day as well. If you did not get a change to speak with Doug Mitchell the photographer, please check out his web site http://dougmitchellevents.lifepics.com to view and order pictures of your skaters special day. Ask about the composite pictures that he will put together for you for your memorabilia. We will let you know - via email - when the pictures are available online.

When looking through your competition program I hope you will support our many advertisers. They continuously show their support to our Club and all the skaters.

Near the end of the day, skaters, parents and coaches were treated to a delicious cake that the Club provided for the Garren 25th Anniversary. Thanks to the Hoyt family for seeing that it arrived in time and thank you to our members who served it.

The Palladino Team Trophy - awarded to the Club with the most points was again awarded to the Hudson Mohawk Figure Skating Club.

Thank you to all of the runners. They were an enormous help and greatly appreciated for their efforts.

We salute all of our HMFSC winners at the Garren! And of course their coaches for all of their dedication, support and guidance.
