Letter from the President
Fall, 2007
A warm welcome back to our members and to all of our new members.
The excitement that began in the summer with our 4 day camp has carried over to our 2007-2008 skating season.
Our exhibition team has been selected and meets every Saturday morning at the field house. They have a team name, The Houstonettes in honor of the Livingston Houston, former President of RPI and name skate for our home rink.
The Team made their debut performance at the RPI Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament in November. Pictures were taken for the newspaper and our Club web site. We are all very proud of the girls. The team is being trained by Bobbi Hammond and Donna Wojtowicz and their team leader is Vici Armsby.
The team also performed at the Annual Albany Christmas Tree lighting held at the Empire Plaza on Sunday, December 2, 2007. The girls did a wonderful job and were received warmly with much applause.
The team is being supported by the Club in part, and the 8 skaters and parents have taken on 2 very successful fund raising activities along with manning the snack table each Saturday under the direction of Lois Bonesteel.
Our membership numbers are very good. To date we have 70 LTS members with new skaters joining every week; 43 advanced members and 6 associate members. Our skating instructors have been working together to continue to make our programs the best in the area.
Judi Carhart has begun to gather items for the gift baskets that will be raffled off during the holiday season and at the annual show Sunday, January 6. Please stop by on Saturday to offer Judi some help with contributions for the baskets. Judi is also taking care of the Next-To-New items.
Koodos to our skaters Mikayla Carhart, Amy Chen, Liza Dickinson, Sarah Ingraham, Abby Lee, Tea Mottolese, Flavia Siclovan, Stephanie Todt, and Kathleen Todt who represented Hudson Mohawk at the Halloween Classic Competition that was held in Clifton Park. HMFSC placed 4th overall in team points. The membership congratulates all our members who participated.
The Club held a Special Meeting on November 14 to amend our Constitution to comply with our application for tax exempt status. It was unanimously approved by all in attendance.
If you have news about your skating or school activity we would love to know about it. Contact any Board member with the news and if you have a picture Judi Carhart would like to feature it on the bulleting board.
With Thanksgiving behind us we now look ahead to our annual show in January. The LTS groups will begin to practice their routines, and Pam Hoyt will be busy creating costumes. If you can sew I know that Pam would like to hear from you. She is at the rink every Saturday morning.
I am very thankful to our teaching staff on Saturday mornings for their cheerful manner and spirit. Remember, if you are interested in private lessons their phone numbers are printed on our web site www.hmfsc.ORG. We have extra ice on Wednesday evening and Sunday morning for a guest fee of $15.00 per hour.
