LEARN TO SKATE USA

Since 1951, our Learn to Skate program has offered skating to recreational skaters of all levels, ages 5-adult. All lessons are 1 hour, and include a 30 minute group lesson and 30 minute practice time. A shortened lesson program for preschool children (ages 3-4) is also available. All lessons are taught by USFSA-qualified professional instructors.

Fall session skaters (Oct-Dec) participate with their groups in our December Holiday Happiness ice show. Winter session skaters (Jan-Mar) may individually participate in our annual Garren competition (additional lessons may be required)

Requirements:

Properly fitting, single blade skates (we can help)

Warm, Layered Clothing (including jacket)

Mittens or Gloves

Helmet (required for preschool; recommended for all others)

PRIVATE LESSONS - FREESTYLE

For the skater who has advanced beyond the Learn to Skate environment, and/or is interested in the USFSA Competition and Testing System, we recommend private lessons with a USFSA-qualified Coaching Professional to continue improving their skills.

Coaches are independent contractors, and fees & availability vary based on expertise and teaching experience. Lessons are arranged directly with the Coaching Professional

FREESTYLE ICE

Freestyle Ice Time is available on Saturday afternoons from October-March. Skaters testing at USFSA Pre-preliminary and above are welcome. Learn to Skate students taking private lessons with a qualified coach are also welcome.

Ice is purchased separate from any coaching fee.

HOUSTONETTES

The HMFSC Houstonettes are highly motivated, dedicated skaters who practice together for many hours to perform exciting synchronized routines on the ice.
